Day 11 - We're not a very happy team at Hawthorn

Sam Mitchell - Hawks coach |
Well, today was always going to be about the footy. I had my breakfast and had quick walk down the Prom to pick up a take away coffee at the Coffee Hatch. There was a very light rain falling, and the tide was out.

I came home and got myself organised, with my laptop connected to the TV and watched the ebb and flow of the game against Port Adelaide. We were mostly behind, but we were coming with a rush at the end, but two of our last scoring opportunities hit the post, and we ended up losing by 3 points. Normally I would be in the depths of despair with this result, but I was very proud of my boys, and the way they have fought out the year. So near and yet so far... but we live to fight another day, and that will be big motivation for next year.
Thank to all those people who sent messages of condolence!!! You know me too well!!!!
Anyway, once the footy was over, what was I to do next??? The first thing was lunch. I didn't have much on hand here and I couldn't be bothered going too far afield, so of course I returned to my usual haunt - The Atlantic Hotel - where I had a lovely toasted ham and cheese sandwich and a cup of coffee. While I was there, I was explaining to the girls that I was having trouble with my Sim card and was asking them in they thought the Vodaphone shop in Ennis would still be open for a while...??? Anyway, Aisling suggested that sometimes the Sim card just comes loose, so maybe if I took it out and put it in again it might solve the problem. So she and Martina helped me out and did exactly that, and behold - it solved the problem!!! It now seems to working again. Thanks so much ladies!!!

Then, I had to decide once again what to do next. I didn't really want to stay home so I thought I'd just go for a little drive in the car. I headed south, down towards Miltown Malbay and stopped at a few of the beaches along the way.

Spanish Point |
There is a lovely hotel in this area called The Armada, which looks right out over the sea.

Armada Hotel |
Spanish Point is so named after the ships of the Spanish Armada who were wrecked during stormy weather in 1588. A little bit of history is found in every corner of Ireland.
So that was my very un-newsy day! I feel sad that we were so close and lost, but at least now I can settle into full holiday mode and not be stressed about the footy.
Soon it will be time for dinner and guess where I'm going???? Back to the Atlantic of course. I met the owner the other day, with Marie, and he was there today and remembered me. So I've become quite a local in that part of Lahinch anyway!!
Now it's back to tourist mode - let's see what I can find for the rest of my holiday????
For some reason I didn’t get day 11 of your travels, so went into your blog archive and found it. Didn’t know how I could have had my early morning coffee without a travel update 🤣. Then I thought you may have been grieving the football results, but you rose to the occasion and blogged. Thankyou. Enjoy 🇮🇪
ReplyDeleteI read this at 2am and realised I must have just sent the email to myself and not added the group in!! What a disaster!! Thanks for the heads up.. I think it's sorted now.
DeleteSame, I had to go looking. Col
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it!!! Shows where my mind was!!!
DeleteDeep, deep mourning….
DeleteMe too! Deepest commiserations Moira - your season has now ended pre final much like ours which, in all honesty, was more pre end of season xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise. Yes all good things must come to an end... sad but true!!
DeleteMoira I feel your pain. As the Eagles weren’t playing Chas & I took sides and out of loyalty to you I was barracking for the Hawks and Chas for Port 😥. Nevermind as you say being in Ireland and consoling yourself with a coffee is a good way to go. The weather looks cool - just lovely for a walk on the beach. Enjoy ❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteI’m back from holidays in Adelaide Moira. Reading your blog has been a vicarious holiday pleasure so many thanks.
DeleteYou may not be aware that my hometown of Rosewater is close to the Port Adelaide docks so my allegiance is with the “mighty” Port Power who did so well after an earlier serious beating. There was a lot of luck in this win though. Sportsmen don’t seem to realise that being a finalist is a great achievement. I hope the wounds are healing Moira.
Thanks Sue. Glad you stuck up for the Hawks. I actually consoled myself with an Irish coffee last night. It was lovely!! ☘️🇮🇪 The weather is quite cool atm. I usually wear my jacket when I'm outside. The been a bit of light rain but not too bad. Typical Irish weather.
DeleteThanks Geraldine. I did remember you were from Adelaide but did not know of your allegiance with Port. Glad your are enjoying the blog. There always seems to be a story or two in Ireland. ☘️🇮🇪
DeleteHi Moira . I’ve been thinking of to today and was pleased to read you can now transition completely into holiday mode! Today in Nelbourne we had a max of 10.8, but felt like 3 most of the day -winter again! I’m watching the Lions play the Giants. At the end of the first quarter the Giants are up by 10 points.
ReplyDeleteYour daily snapshots of Irish life and geography are fantastic, Annette.
Thanks Annette. Yes bit chilly here today too... 16° but that's ok. My friends in the West are sweltering. 35° in Gero today... the weather is weird lately. I'm watching the footy too. Don't care who wins now..
DeleteIt certainly was a nail-biter of a game Moira! A great close game for a final, just a disappointing result. Sandra talked me into doing footy tipping this season for the first time and I did well mostly by tipping the hawks. In fact I got third place in the tipping. A big surprise for me who knows so little about the game. I love your daily gentle journeys. That’s the way I like to experience a place, in small bites. 😊 Katie
ReplyDeleteWell done on the tipping Katie!! Just shows what sticking with the hawks does!! Glad you're enjoying the journey.
