Day 5 - PM - Kilfenora

Burren Visitors Centre at Kilfenora |
When I said I was going to produce another blog for my Irish trip, I outlined my plan of visiting some of the places names in the Song - Clare, my heart, my home.
It was sung by Edel Vaughan and accompanied by the Kilfenora Ceili Band, which is very famous in this part of Ireland, and even internationally.
So today, I started that journey....
Kilfenora was nice and close, only 19 minutes from Lahinch, and after my busy morning, seemed a good place to start.

So, in the song it says...
Kilfenora of the crosses, seven carved from Burren stone
Standing tall as sentinels of faith in Clare, my heart, my home
Standing tall as sentinels of faith in Clare, my heart, my home
And I was keen to see the crosses..I'm not sure I saw all seven... but I'll add some pics from the where they were found... Everything is so old in Ireland, and there are so many legends attached to their attractions...

Not sure which one this is?? |
I was getting a bit confused at this stage, so this is just a sample.
But there was one more thing that caught my attention as I left the Cathedral and the Crosses - another Holy Well!! This one was dedicated to St Fachtnan.

St Fachtnan's Well |
So I followed the trail and found the well and blessed myself with the water. Hope it cures the hay fever I could feel coming on as I followed the very grassy track to the well....!!!!

So that was my first venture into the tourism industry since I arrived here...
Then I came home and had a lovely cup of coffee. I haven't been for my walk along the beach yet, but I think that;s my next event after a rather prolonged version of today's activities.
Beautiful song and lovely scenery to go with it. Colleen

ReplyDeleteThanks Meggsie.. always love your interaction with the blog!!
ReplyDeleteYou have set yourself a great mission in visiting some of the places in the song. You have already found yourself delving into ancient history. Goodness knows how many more holy wells you will discover! xx
ReplyDeleteYou know how I love my history!! Everything is just so old here. And yet another well!! I'll be keeping my eyes open for them during my travels!!!
DeleteEdel Vaughan is beautiful!! I closed my eyes and felt myself lazing on the meadows in Ireland! There is sooooooo much to learn, so much history, incredible architecture, thank God so much has been preserved. I get so upset when whole communities or countries are destroyed. How exciting you found a well, bless you Moira! You are a brilliant tour guide!
ReplyDeleteHuge hugs Bronwen 🤗
Yes that music certainly stirs the soul. The wells were a big item on my blog last year.. hence the reference to them. I'm always on the lookout now for a good well!!! 😁
DeleteI am a bit behind, but I’m enjoying your stories and recounts of your travels. I love Ireland xox
ReplyDeleteOdile here, by the way!
DeleteBetter late than never Odile. Hope you enjoy!
