Day 21 My family tree

Well I'm not sure if this is going to be very exciting for everyone to read today, but I'm excited!! Because today I went over to Corofin to the Clare Heritage and Genealogy Centre and received my long awaited report on my Curtin ancestors.

It's been a bit of a journey to get there but 18 months later, it's all come together.
With the help of many of my lovely cousins and relatives, I had been able to borrow and compile a certain amount of information about my ancestors. But there were still some glaring gaps. For example we still can't establish the date of birth of my great grandfather John Curtin, who emigrated to Australia in 1855. But this can be put down to dodgy records kept in those days, so there still a bit of guess work involved.
But there is lots more background knowledge and an extra generation added in. This report has also expanded the family sideways. I've often wondered about the siblings and cousins of my great grandfather, and this had provided a heap of information about all that too.
So for the rest of today I'm going to get stuck back into my Ancestry account and add in the extra information.
I haven't even been down the beach today, as I had to leave early to get to Corofin by 11am.
Just to add a little of the travel stuff....
Here's a picture of the grotto outside Corofin..

I took the round trip to Corofin. Went through over via the Ennis Rd and came back through Kilfenora. It was a lovely drive.

Then did a bit of shopping at SuperValu while I was there.
Now, I need to try and add that information into my Ancestry account while it is still fresh in my mind..
Does that mean in some way, shape or form you are related to John Curtin our previous illustrious leader? Col
ReplyDeleteNo I think he was from Cork ... that's a different mob.

DeleteFamily trees are so interesting - great work on persevering with yours. Wouldn't it be lovely to be able to step back in time for a day or so and have a chat to a relative. Probably help us understand ourselves a bit better. xx
ReplyDeleteI would so love to do that. I often wish now that I had asked mum and dad more questions. Too late, she cried.. 😪
